Dear Gracie, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful writing and illustrations with us. I can't begin to imagine how much effort you've put just into this single post (the option of listening to the chapter is such a unique idea). Your attention to detail is fascinating. Kindness shines through all of your work. I am so excited to read the next chapter, I love it :)
Thank you so much, Pálma! That means the world to me, and I'm so grateful to you for taking the time to read it! It does take a lot of effort, but I love being able to share it with you, and it brings me a lot of joy to know it means something to others. It's been a really incredible experience already to have it out there in the world! Thank you!!
Damn I proud to know you (even if it’s only via screens). I’ve always loved the way your brain makes a story. The fact that you’re putting this out there is fantastic.
Oh my goodness, what an incredible compliment Paige, thank you! And I'm super proud and glad to know you, too. 🧡 Thank you for believing in me and encouraging me all these years, and being someone I can call a friend (even if it is only through screens!).
Wow, just wow! 🤩 And this color pallet and the catching fire text are just blowing me away already. The colors lend their selves to being light and cozy and dark and creepy. 👌🏻🥞
Oh, wow, thank you so much, Rhea! That means so much to me! I know there's a whole lot of work and probably a lot of changes to this story between now and if/when it's actually a graphic novel, but I'm so excited by this direction already, and so grateful you're coming along for this journey with me!
Honestly I was thinking, “what if this was a combination of a graphic novel and novel? Wouldn’t it be cool if there were pages of just text and then a 2 page illustrated page like June sitting in the booth with the comic book style?” Looking forward to the next chapters and more progress on the illustrations.
That's an interesting idea, Jenn! I like how that could allow me to use some longer prose bits that worked really well, and make some cuts and changes to keep the story moving and use more visuals in graphic novel style. Have you seen other stories shared that way? I'd love any recommendations if you know of any! Thank you so much for reading and commenting!
Nothing comes to mind immediately, but I know I’ve read children’s books that were this format. Older children, not like a picture book. It almost seems that some Roald Dahl books had something like this. I’ll have to dig in my library a bit.
Oh! You know, now that you mention it, I think The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick is formatted like that! It's been ages since I've read it, but I'll see if I can find a copy and read it again to see if it feels like that format could fit with this story! Thank you so much for the idea and reminder!
