It feels like a choice, but it's not.

How the creative journey and the personal journey are really the same
15

Before we jump in, there’s a change to how I’m approaching content here on Substack (I also talk about it in this episode):

From here on out, I’ll be sharing all my posts for free.

It’s too much of a struggle for me to manage multiple levels of content, especially when all I really want to do is offer it all to anyone who wants to share in it with me!

This way I can manage my capacity and energy levels with less guilt and pressure, and if you’re a paid subscriber, your support still makes all the difference—every dollar helps me lean into creating from a place of safety and self care instead of a scramble to perform at a particular level. Which also means I’ll be able to share better, more self-connected work with you as I’m able!

Feel free to ask any questions if you have them!

In this episode:

So much of this summer has been a reminder, one way or another, of how my creative journey and my personal journey are actually the same. As much as I tend to treat them as separate things, these two parts of me are deeply connected to each other, even though it often feels like a choice between chasing more productivity or profitability or success as an artist, and caring for myself as a human (especially one who also happens to be Autistic and ADHD and is learning how to care for myself through burnout).

In this Coffee Chat, I talk about how I’m doing in both parts of my life, and learning to integrate and support them as one, both to care for myself and to create work that is fulfilling and uniquely me.

I mention:

Creative Pep Talk Podcast, specifically the series starting with Episode 410.

Sarah Shotts’ book: Discover Your Creative Ecosystem

I’d love to know—How do you keep your creative work grounded in who you are as a person?

P.S. Substack literally announced today as I was getting ready to record this Coffee Chat that they’re launching a transcription feature—I tested it for this podcast and had some issues, but I’m hoping to figure those out and be able to include transcripts in the future!
